Pooling at the bottom of a great river, Whanganui offers a vibrant, eclectic professional arts scene set amongst an impressive architectural heritage.
On this Artexplore day trip with Mark Amery we plan to visit the historic Sarjeant Gallery and staff to see the premiere of Gregory O’Brien’s exhibition of photography for the young and curious, Glen Hayward’s exhibition of surreal witty wood sculptures, visit the great Rayner Brothers shopfront gallery, Paul McNamara’s dedicated space to New Zealand photography, the recently opened Quartz Museum of Studio Ceramics run by legendary potter Rick Rudd looking at the history of NZ ceramics, plus many more surprises in between. A delight meeting many great collectors and supporters of photography and applied arts in a quiet jewel of a town.
We will meet at finish at Toi Poneke. But if you are up the coast contact us to arrange a pick up/drop off. We will find somewhere good for a quick lunch. At this stage we are getting a van for 11 people only. You do need to book ASAP with such small numbers. Out of towners can arrange to be picked up ion the way, or can travel independently to Whanganui
The usual contact 021566300 for running late, cant find us.
