Discover and explore Wellington’s different precincts of fine contemporary dealer art galleries. Each week join the group of excited art lovers to discover a different cluster of galleries. With ever changing exhibitions of emerging, mid-career and established artists we are thrilled to discover new artistic expressions. We are introduced to the gallery, gallerist, the exhibition and sometimes we are lucky to get to talk with an artist. We get all the extras of being with a guide the gallerists know and respect. Returning several weeks later to new exhibitions and new fabulous experiences.

This Season we are so delighted to be offering two new Walks: the Te Ara/Courtney Pl Walk and the Ngakau/Civic Square Walk.

We are excited to be back in the Cuba Mall and surrounds art precinct. The galleries will be selected by Mark or Mary Jane as there are just too many to get to! We’ll meet at Toi Poneke, likely go around the corner to {Suite} along the Mall to Bartley and Company, maybe McLeavy Gallery, Enjoy, Hamish MaKay Bowen Gallery, Hopkinson Mossman; Robert Heald; or even play_station. There is too much. We will be guided by Mark or Mary Jane to the best options.

For the second time we are back in this brand new Walk & Talk! Wow. Meeting in the extraordinary foyer of the Museum Hotel. Spend some time luxuriating in the foyer and hear about the works from Mark Amery. Then we walk to the newly opened earthquake proof Photospace. Stalling by the always intriguing Courtney Pl Lightboxes before going to the fascinating Potochi Paterwocki , finishing at the artist run space Playstation.

Another terrific Art Explore Saturday with Mark. We saw a great many public sculptures around the Lower Lambton Quay areas in the sunshine before finishing up with two half-hour blocks at the Portrait Gallery and at the Academy of Fine Arts near the waterfront.

I have been attending and helping out with Art Explore walks for some time now and have loved every minute! Their latest themed walk set the group on a tour of the traditional, contemporary and often quirky at four of Wellington’s best sites for exhibiting jewellery. A bonus was getting to visit The Makers work space on Abel Smith Street for a tour of the studio and a play-by play of the displayed pieces by co-founder Annie Collins. Stay for the coffee and fantastic conversation after the walk is over. I have been attending and helping out with Art Explore walks for some time now and have loved every minute! Thank you for the tour Mark.
Some great little art spots, most of them I didn’t even know existed and the ones I did know of, hadn’t been to yet. Added bonus of sharing your knowledge of the history of the buildings and public arts and spaces along the way. A great way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning and learnt a bit more about this wonderful little city.
Not to mention met a wonderful group of people, all art enthusiasts themselves. Looking forward to the next tour.
