Artist, mentor and provocateur Theo Schoon occupies a critical place in the cultural history of New Zealand, and was associated with many major writers and artists, including Walters, Baxter, McCahon, Fairburn, Curnow and Angus.

In a series of vignettes, each based around an artwork, author of Theo Schoon: A Biography Damian Skinner situates Schoon in mid-twentieth century Aotearoa. This is at the Auckland Art Gallery

This looks both a heap of fun and enlightening.
